Visitor information for Teignmouth in Devon

Teignmouth is one of Devon's oldest seaside resorts and it retains much of the quaint charm and homely atmosphere which has drawn generations of visitors looking for the traditional activities found beside the sea.

The beaches here are extensive and varied: next to the promenade is the award winning sandy Town Beach, which has a Victorian pier completed in 1867 and which originally marked the line between men and women bathers on the beach. The pier remains an enduring symbol of the traditional seaside resort, stretching out into the clear blue waters of the bay, providing a unique style of fun and entertainment to thousands of visitors every year.
Around the Point and facing into the estuary is Back Beach, a great favourite with the locals and with views across to Shaldon. Because the port is still active there are boats and fishing paraphernalia galore as well as huts and houses right on the sand. You can catch a ferry, reputed to be the oldest ferryboat in England, or stay and watch the sunset.

Many of the town’s buildings are Georgian, Regency or Victorian and are a delight to the eye. Those looking for retail therapy will find a good choice of shops, while the small cafes and restaurants serve up plenty of good food, much of it delicious South Devon produce.

Gardeners and flower-lovers are always thrilled by the beautiful displays along the promenade and in the Den - a public area with plenty of places for relaxation and quiet contemplation. An adventure golf course, games area and children’s play area are complemented by a programme of regular events and entertainment.

If you are feeling energetic try one of the many water sports available or walk some of the fascinating trails around the town and coast. Golfers are treated to a course with spectacular views, at 800 feet above sea level it offers a challenging round of golf with a backdrop envied by many other clubs.
