Things to do inBuckfastleigh

Visitor information for Buckfastleigh in Devon

On the edge of Dartmoor you’ll find the charming town of Buckfastleigh. Once at the heart of the woollen industry it is now home to many tourist attractions, including the popular South Devon Railway.

Buckfastleigh is well equipped with amenities: two public parks; a swimming pool; skate park; tennis courts; and a bowling green.

The town centre has attractive street frontages, craft shops and a weekly farmers' market which is just the place to stock up on some local goodies.

The nearby Abbey at Buckfast is a monument to the dedication of a small group of Benedictine monks who, over a period of 30 years, rebuilt the monastery, completing the work in 1937. It is still a thriving community today and the monks welcome visitors on retreat throughout the year. Most visitors don’t leave without buying at least one bottle of the Abbey’s Tonic Wine, said to be beneficial for both the body and soul.
